Greetings; having a problem finding wlan0 to use a Link-Sys WUSB11 dongle
that seems to be V. 2.5 according to all the howto's and faq's and question
sites I've visited.. The comments on LinuxQuestions are mostly about the
operation of the device of which I have not gotten to yet. :^(..
Asus ME99 MB; Slackware 10.2, kernel 2.4.31, linux-wlan-ng-0.2.7.tar.bz2,
that extracts and compiles normally creating prism2_usb.o and p80211.o that
are installed in /lib/modules/2.4.31/linux-wlan-ng/..
Rebooting I find that lsusb and cat /proc/bus/usb/devices, both list the
hardware dongle.. Entered 'alias wlan0 prism2_usb' in /etc/modules.conf.
lsmod reports both prism_usb and p80211 and usbcore has prism_usb attached.
Since Link-Sys doesn't support iwconfig, iwlist, etc I invoked:
wlanctl-ng wlan0 lnxreq_ifstate ifstate=enable
and got the report "no such device."
Since the machine is dual boot with XP-Pro, I booted XP and, of course
<grin> it worked fine so the hardware is seemingly OK.. I don't use MS for
anything so that is moot..
Thinking that kernel 2.6 might work; I tried Slackware 11.0, 2.6.17.13, in
another partition--same as above--getting the exact same report...
I, then, thought--motherboard and MB chipset?? Since this machine works fine
with either a Ralink RT2500 PCI board or a ZD1211 dongle; WUSB11 "should"
work since others are using it.. I'm doing something wrong or missing a
major something, methinks.. I _am_ learning a lot about wifi though. :^).
(linuxpackages.org; dedicated to Slackware, hasn't a driver that I could
find)
Any suggestions?? Appreciate!!
