0.1.15's main aim was internal cleanups and stability. 0.1.16 gets to
have a bunch of new toys. They haven't been extensively tested, but
hey, that's what -pre releases are for!
What's new:
0) Usual misc fixes and whatnot
1) gcc 3.x cleanups
2) Complete re-write of the wireless extension code. Most GET
operations are supported now, and adding in support for SET is much
simpler now. I personally don't plan to put much more work into
this, but as always, patches are welcome.=20
3) Implemented dot11req_scan and dot11req_scan_results. So you can do
things the RightWay(tm) and issue a scan, find the network you want,
and then have per-network profiles. None of the included scripts
have been updated yet. Note -- the pcmcia and pci/usb/plx=20
scripts+config stuffs still need to be merged.
Now for a word of warning. Many versions of the prism firmware will
occasionally completely lock up when issuing a scan, including the
latest "official" release from Intersil (1.5.4). Once I have a clearer
picture of which ones work (and/or Intersil gets a new release through
QA), I'll add in versioning. =20
The wireless extension code is also shiny-new, and thus is guranteed to
have bugs. Remember, only GET operations are currently implemented. If
the kernel wireless extension version and the userland versions don't
match, other bugs could crop up. Make sure you have matched versions
before reporting bugs. Some SET operations are easy to add, others
will be considerably more involved. Regardless, wlanctl-ng will remain
the recommended configuration tool.
Changelog follows:
-pre1
- wland was incorrectly using kernel headers in its compile.=20
- Adhoc mode was auto-roaming onto "any" SSID. Fixed.
- Implemented the dot11req_scan & dot11req_scan_results functions.
This, combined with more intelligent startup scripts, will allow
you per-network profiles. Scripts are unwritten as yet. :)
- hfa384x.h and MIB updates.
- Rewrote the wireless extension support code; moved to p80211 layer.
Now we're compatible with at least v6-v14, and everything
inbetween. We hook up to the new iw_request structure, which
makes further wireless extension support much easier to add.
- Add the Microsoft MN510 USB device ID.
- Finally fix the 'crash on unload' problem for 2.2.x kernels with PCI.
Turns out the kcompat24 code wasn't quite complete. (Matthew Rush)
- Cleaned up our usage of __FUNCTION__ to make gcc 3.x happy.
- Fix a typo in the prism2 makefile. =20
Have fun, folks.
- Pizza
